For the past two weeks, the press has been talking about filmgoers who have had bad experiences watching the monster film, “Cloverfield.” While vertigo is the chief culprit (no, I’m not talking about the Alfred Hitchcock film), the method that the filmmakers employed to shoot this film also takes responsibility.

As you have surely heard by now, the film tells the story of a group of partygoers whose groove is upset when a huge monster begins roaming Manhattan. One of the friends captures the whole thing on tape, sometimes running and avoiding potential trouble.

The very sensation of watching this handheld camera in some scenes was akin to riding a roller-coaster. We heard stories of moviegoers getting sick during and after the film from coast-to-coast, no doubt increasing the film’s scary street cred.

As has been suggested if you want to see the film and have concerns that you may be susceptible to motion sickness, remember if you feel lightheaded, just close your eyes for a second to regain you equilibrium.

For those of you who just refuse to see this film on the big screen, another suggestion is to wait until the film hits your DVD shelf. It is a lot easier to watch the movie in the comfort of your own home where you are much more comfortable.Plus, take solace that there are plenty of films in theaters that could make you sick for real – anybody seen “Meet the Spartans?”

Diagnosis
The “Bucket List” is a timeless story of what’s important when people don’t have a lot of time left.

In the film, two of American’s most talented actors, Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson take a stab at telling a story that is familiar and relevant to all of us. “The Bucket List” begs us to ask ourselves a question: what kind of person do you want to be at the end of your life?

If we are to be defined by who we have touched and what we have done then a film like “The Bucket List” always strikes a relevant cord.

Remedy
Just enjoy “The Bucket List.” It contains a good story, great acting and it will leave you thinking about what you want to do and talking about it who you want to do it with.

“Success is nothing without someone to share it with.”

Tyra Banks opens up about the loneliness that awaits her at the end of her busy days – which swing between producing/hosting “America’s Next Top Model” and her own daytime talk show. “I’d go to work [on 'The Tyra Banks Show'], and women would be crying in my arms,” she tells the latest issue of Essence. “But then I’d go home and put my key in my door and … nothing. No friends, no husband, no children. I feel so full when I’m at work but so empty when I come home.”

Successful people frequently lament about it being lonely at the top. They talk about their personal lives being empty. But “Mahagony” got it wrong. Success isn’t nothing without someone to share it with. No success and no one to share it with is nothing. That is a lonely and empty life.Like every other successful person, Tyra has had to make tough choices. She chooses to do both of her shows. Does she also choose to attend religious services, or join a sorority, or practice a social hobby or have children? Her success affords her many more choices than it takes away. Other celebrities have found a way to juggle multiple important and meaningful responsibilities.

Ice Cube’s character, Durrell views everything wrong in “First Sunday.” He feels that to show his son he loves him all he has to do is spend time with him instead of spending time showing him what kind of man he should be.

Instead of teaching his son values, he shows his son that he has no values.

Instead of showing his son the value of good honest work, he tries to demonstrate the value of being dishonest.

Remedy
This clichéd-overdone story of a father engaging in criminal activity to keep being able to spend time with his son is not only offensive, its not humorous. Any one smart enough to plan a crime is smart enough to go to school or keep a job.

There’s nothing funny about lousy fathers who thing they can make consistently bad choices and then think everything is okay because they say, “I love you.”

Contrast the father in first Sunday with the father in, “John Q” or “3:10 to Yuma.”

“First Sunday” star, Tracey Morgan’s wife Sabina has filed for divorce after 22 years of marriage citing that the comedian’s alcoholism has ruined their marriage.

“I have to divorce him. I still have feelings for him, but the marriage is over. “I’m having my lawyer file the divorce papers. I gave him every opportunity since August to stay in the marriage, but he’s failed. It’s terrible that he’s drinking again. He knows he shouldn’t be doing that for so many reasons, his health especially.”

Apparently, Tracey only kept it together well enough to make, “First Sunday.” Now what is he going to make of the rest of his life.

MovieDoc’s Prescription
People don’t stop drinking and drugging because its bad for their health or because its hurting their family. Often times, as heath and relationships deteriorate, the ongoing losses only reinforce the need for the consistent, dependable psychological escape provided by an drug induced alternate reality. They only stop using because the hole in their lives that they thought could only be filled with alcohol and other chemicals starts being filled with something positive.

Diagnosis
If you think something is really wrong with your child, you might be right! “Joshua” is evidence that it is possible to get everything wrong – you can have a bad movie and a bad child.

In this film, the very serious issues of postpartum depression and child abuse are treated poorly in this poor-man’s excuse for “The Omen.” This movie should be retitled, “Joshua: The Care and Feeding of a Serial Killer.”

Remedy
If you feel bad about sitting through this movie, take some time and educate yourself about child abuse and postpartum depression. These are serious problems and as such deserve a better vehicle than this story.

Diagnosis
Sometimes the dream that comes true is really a nightmare. When you do anything to get what you want, be careful what you want. There is a name for people who don’t care about other people’s feelings – in this film that name is castrated!

In this movie don’t piss off the heroine while she’s getting off. “Teeth” is the ultimate story of a woman using her womanly wiles in the worst way. Not only is that every moviegoers worst nightmare, but for the men its even harder to bear.

Remedy
Avoid this film if you can! If you decide to sit through this movie, if you’re not bothered by the horrible editing, bad acting and nonsenseical story, I prescribe for you the sequel!

Can you pretend to be something without actually becoming the very thing you hope to avoid?

Diagnosis
The movie is about betrayal. The first example is when the group murders a traitor. Later her feelings are betrayed by beginning a relationship with a man she is supposed to kill. Throughout the film, the protagonist is constantly betraying all of those around her including herself. Overall, the film is another example of a man making a film about a woman not strong enough to follow through with an important assignment. What’s more important: love for country or love for orgasms?

Remedy
If you want to impress the man you love don’t let his best friend teach you how to have sex while the man you love is in the next room. Also, if you don’t know how really rough sex will impact your judgement slow down and take a Valium.

In “No Country for Old Men,” Tommy Lee Jones, who plays an “old” lawman, early on tells a story about a hardened cold-blooded killer he helped capture and execute. The telling of that story goes to the heart of the challenge in this movie.

Movie Doc’s diagnosis?

If you struggle to accept the worst of the “old days”, how do you wrap your brain around things that are much worse than you ever imagined? Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin round out a brilliant cast and the script tells us as much as we need to know to understand how both the good guys and the bad guys tick. The contrasts and especially the similarities of the main characters make this film entertaining while providing an appreciation of the sometimes all too real pain of realizing that there are no absolutes.

And even when everyone has values and plays by rules, the game is always deadly serious when everyone has different values and plays by different rules.

Remedy
Sheriff Ed Tom, know when to say when!

Llewellyn, you should have been cruel to the thirsty guy to be kind to yourself. Don’t let your conscience be your guide. If you know something is stupid, just say no and don’t do it!
